Game Developer Eutechnyx Primes its Engines for Racing MMO

Posted May 13, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Responsible for titles such as Super Car Challenge and Ferrari Challenge, Eutechnyx recently announced their development of a casual MMO that will have visual quality on level with their console games. This new casual MMO, Auto Club Revolution, in conjunction with a $9.25 million cash injection from an exterior investor gives good signs that the game could be released on the 2010 target. The game will focus not just on racing, but also on the car culture. In an interview with Gamasutra, Todd Eckert, Eutechnyx’s North America Director, stated that the game is intended to create “a driving-centered-community.”

This investment will help finalize the development of the upcoming Ride to Hell, and will ensure that Eutechnyx is able to develop upcoming free-to-play games within the casual online games market.

“We’re thrilled to have secured this investment headed up by Europe’s most successful technology VC,” adds Brian Jobling, CEO, Eutechnyx. “As an independent developer, this infusion will help us to continue to forge our own destiny within a rapidly changing games industry. Not only does the investment enable us to continue to innovate, we can continue to do so on our own terms.”

“When we saw what Eutechnyx was working on, we knew we had to be involved, particularly given Eutechnyx’s track record, design heritage and jaw-dropping technology,” said Monish Suri, General Partner at Prime Technology Ventures, “We only invest in the best, so we’re incredibly excited to be able to play a role in the creation of projects that will drive the future of videogames.”

Eutechnyx has remained an independent developer in its 23 years, and investments like this certainly help. With the upcoming MMO, and speculation pointing to future NASCAR games the studio seems to be strengthening its grip on racing games.
