The massive popularity of free-to-play titles keeps shining through - the latest announcement from Sony Online Entertainment reveals that Free Realms has surpassed 20 million registered users, a feat that took just over 2 years to complete.
"This benchmark is an honor and a true testament of SOE's success with Free-to-Play games," said John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "Free Realms delivers a truly captivating, quality gameplay experience that keeps our community engaged and continues to attract new players every day."
To celebrate the occasion, SOE has announced several new events for dedicated fans. For one of these, gamers will have a Halloween festival to attend in-game. Players will be able to buy costumes, new mounts and even see a Vampire vs. Werewolf dance-off.
SOE has had much success with the free-to-play model, and the firm believes it's clearly the way all games will be headed. Smedley commented recently that BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMO could be the last ever big MMO to feature a subscription.
