Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka has stated that the Xbox 360 version of the game has not been cancelled, only that development has been paused, as talks with Microsoft are still ongoing.
Speaking with VG247, Tanaka stated that previous rumors of the Xbox 360 version being cancelled are false. He added that a demo is in the works and that discussions with Microsoft are still ongoing.
“We’re still talking with Microsoft at the moment so there is no update as to when we’ll start again,” he said, admitting the only roadblock to the game hitting the console at the moment is restrictions imposed by Xbox Live.
Final Fantasy XIV is set for release next month worldwide on the PC, with a scheduled release date for the PS3 in March 2011.

He needs to give it uo. Microsoft can't get their act together when it comes to mmo's. We've been waiting for one(I'm going to forget FF11 ever happened) this entire generation. The closest we got was 1 vs 100, which coincidentally just got cancelled as well. Hmmm......

You might want to forget Final Fantasy XI but the fact remains that it was an MMO that is on the XBox360. Additionally there are titles like Phantasy Star Universe on there as well. I'm not exactly sure what the exact roadblock is here but Square and Microsoft need to work it out.

I wonder if Final Fantasy XI (which is the only subscription MMO to release on the Xbox 360) was some sort of sweetheart deal Microsoft brokered with Square Enix in order to get them to better support their new platform. Now, it seems they don't want to budge.
Possible roadblocks: Xbox 360 Silver users aren't supposed to be able to play online on the console, but what if they don't want to pay for Xbox Live Gold, but still want to play a subscription MMO? There's also the matter of revenue sharing, since Xbox Live is a pretty closed system - how much of those subscriptions goes to Microsoft? Because of PSN's structure, it's more open to MMOs like DCUO, FFXIV and Free Realms, which are all coming to the system
