Final Fantasy Has Shipped 100 Million Units Worldwide

Posted June 8, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Square Enix has announced that since the original Final Fantasy hit the Famicom in 1987, the franchise has shipped over a 100 million units worldwide.  Though the series has hit a few speed bumps recently, most notable with the troubled launch of Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix is still hopeful about the future of the franchise.

"We are extremely proud of what the Final Fantasy franchise has achieved over the years and continue to be extremely excited about the future. I would like thank all of our fans, partners and development teams for their support,” said Square Enix president Yoichi Wada.

The company is currently showing off the newest installment, Final Fantasy XIII-2, at E3 2011.
