The highly anticipated FIFA 12 launch has caused a heck of a turnaround for EA Sports, who now say that the game was the best sports title launch in the history of the gaming industry. The new game is being veraciously played by fans around the world, to the tune of 3.2 million sold.
“FIFA 12 is a stunning achievement by our team at EA Canada,” said Andrew Wilson, executive vice-president of EA Sports. “The massive FIFA online community has overwhelmingly connected to the new live services in the game, including EA SPORTS Football Club, and we intend to keep them engaged all season long as FIFA 12 follows the heartbeat of the football season.”
To put things into a scalable perspective, the new title in the franchise beat out last year’s sales of FIFA 11 by over 23%. Even the mobile version of the game did well, with FIFA 12 for iOS selling 879,000 units, becoming the top grossing app for iPhone.
Gamers have been busy with the title online as EA Sports made note that over 200 million minutes of playtime have occurred in online matches. That is over 2.2 million regulation games played thus far.
For those fans of the various clubs around the world, the added Football Club website has recorded millions of fans voting for their top teams. Thus far, Manchester United is topping the list at just over 240K votes, with FC Barcelona sitting at 144K and Arsenal at 131K.
