Fallout: New Vegas Launch Was Too 'Glitchy', Obsidian CEO Apologizes

Posted May 11, 2011 by M.H. Williams

In an interview with Play Magazine (via Now Gamer), Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart acknowledged the company’s reputation for releasing solid, but buggy games.  He promises that Dungeon Siege III won’t have the same issues that plagued the company's last title, Fallout: New Vegas.

"I think it's fair and unfair at the same time, because in the same conversation that I hear how buggy KOTOR and Alpha Protocol were, I also hear how great they were.  We've been working very hard to make sure it doesn't happen again,” Urquhart explained.

"Now in the case of Fallout: New Vegas, we made a gigantic game, and I'm proud with what we were able to do but I wish it wasn't as glitchy when it came out. The criticisms people had are fair.”

"From the standpoint of Dungeon Siege III, we've been working very hard to make sure it doesn't happen again. On top of this, this is the first time we've got to use our own technology on something, which means we know where to find the bad bugs from the start!" he said.  Alpha Protocol was an Unreal Engine 3 title, while New Vegas was built on Bethesda’s existing engine based on Gamebryo.

Dungeon Siege III hits North American retail on June 21, 2011 for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
