Last October, Sid Meier, the "father of computer gaming," unveiled his first ever Facebook project called Civilization Network. The Director of Creative of Development at Firaxis Games is looking to take his most popular franchise to the ever-growing social network. We feel like this is the perfect IP for the booming social gaming space and can't wait to see how it unfolds.
It seems like we'll be waiting just a bit longer, however. Chris Morris at Variety has been informed that the game won't enter open beta until this June. When it does launch, like most social games Civilization Network will be free to play.
"Civilization Network will allow you to join together with your friends to create the world’s most powerful, richest, smartest, or just plain coolest civilization," said Meier in the original announcement. "You can coordinate your strategy to win great battles, share your technology to jump ahead of your rivals, lobby your family and friends to form your own government and win vital elections, manage and grow your cities to maximize production and happiness, spy on your enemies, and work with your friends to create the great Wonders of the World. The game will offer everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment - you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free to play."
