Lionhead Studios founder Peter Molyneux will be honored at the 2011 Game Developers Choice Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the gaming industry. Molyneux has been a large part of the industry for over 25 years now as the co-founder of Bullfrog Productions and founder of Lionhead Studios. He has driven the creation of numerous titles including Theme Park, Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper, Populous, Black & White, and Fable.
Molyneux co-founded Bullfrog Productions in Guildford, England in 1987, a studio with a long history that was eventually purchased by Electronic Arts. He left Bullfrog in 1997 to found Lionhead Studios. Lionhead was eventually acquired by Microsoft and it stands as one of the Redmond giant's best internal studios.
"Peter is a remarkable asset to the games industry, and truly embodies everything that theLifetime Achievement Award represents," said Meggan Scavio, event director of GDC. "We're proud to honor someone who has had such a profound impact on the industry, through his boundless enthusiasm and profound talent in creating games about choice and interactivity that the entire world loves to play."
GDC organizers have also revealed that Double Fine's Tim Schafer will be returning as the host of the awards show. Schafer previously hosted the Choice Awards in 2007 and 2009.
The 2011 Game Developers Choice Awards will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 6:30pm at the San Francisco Moscone Center, during the 2011 Game Developers Conference.
