EverQuest II Becomes Completely Free-to-Play

Posted November 10, 2011 by Ben Strauss

The developers at Sony Online Entertainment have announced that EverQuest II is joining other SOE titles to become free-to-play, and that means big changes for those who have been playing the game for over seven years now.  While a free-to-play expansion has been available for some time now, the entire game will be meshed together in an effort to bring in more users.

EverQuest, largely considered one of the first major MMOs available, is combining EverQuest II and the F2P version of EverQuest II: Extended to create a single game with a single support service to fans.  Executive producer Dave Georgeson in a developer letter to fans noted that the move will improve service, streamline payment options and bring the community together.

Also announced are several new bonuses for the game, including an expansion pack dated through 2013.  More updates to popular areas in the game are inbound as well.
