Epic Games Raises $150,000 For Child's Play Charity as Part of 'Fate of Carmine' Campaign

Posted September 8, 2010 by Ben Strauss

Microsoft and Epic Games revealed at PAX 2010 that fans of Gears of War were responsible for two major things at the show. The ‘Fate of Carmine’ campaign, a campaign that has asked fans to decide whether or not the third Carmine character within the game should live or die, has brought in an impressive $150,000 in donations since July.

The campaign was conducted using digital and physical goods. To cast a vote, one simply had to purchase a shirt on Xbox Live for their avatars. The shirts either said “Carmine Must Die” or “Save Carmine.” While those shirts only cost a few Microsoft points, the real shirts were offered at $20 a piece.

The votes are tallied and the campaign is over, but Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson issued a public statement, thanking those that contributed.

Unfortunately for eager fans, Carmine’s fate was not revealed, and more than likely won’t be until release date.
