Yesterday Realtime Worlds revealed that it had no choice but to shut down its MMO APB after fewer than three months past launch. The studio's unfortunate collapse meant APB players were out of luck. Hope is not completely lost for APB fans, however.
According to the BBC, Realtime's administrators are still looking to sell the MMO. And the one big name that BBC revealed as a potential buyer was Unreal Engine maker and Gears of War developer Epic Games.
Epic, when reached for comment, didn't outright deny interest in the APB property, but the studio wouldn't confirm any talks either. "Mark [Epic Games CEO] absolutely loves APB, and everyone here loved what they saw," said spokeswoman Dana Cowley. "We've got our hands full of Gears of War 3, Bullet Storm and the recently announced Project Sword. If any talks like that are going on, then they would be confidential."
It's worth noting that APB was built on the Unreal Engine, so the transition for Epic would probably be fairly seamless if they did buy the game.
