Emergent Games and Krome Studios Announce Technology Merger

Posted September 13, 2010 by Ben Strauss

The largest Australian game developer Krome Studios, responsible for Game Room, announced today that they would be merging their middleware and core engineering teams with developer Emergent Game Technologies.

The deal is aimed at working together on product extensions and developing cross-platform titles. The deal, expected to go on beyond 2011, has Emergent becoming the exclusive licensor of the joint work.

Krome CEO Robert Walsh, speaking to Gamasutra, noted that Krome has been looking to delve into the middleware space for some time, and that Emergent represented an ideal partner.

"It seemed they have a strong customer base, and they're really strong in sales and marketing," he says. "Instead of having two more in the marketplace, we can join forces -- it just made sense."

The companies stated that they look to bring about “a very aggressive roadmap” by October.
