EA's Medal of Honor Taliban 'Controversy' Draws DICE Response

Posted August 9, 2010 by M.H. Williams

Since starting the Medal of Honor beta a few months ago, EA DICE has weathered some controversy over allowing the Taliban as a faction in the game’s multiplayer mode. Some players have felt discomfort and outrage at being able to play a member of the Taliban and kill American soldiers. DICE, on the other hand, does not feel that it has pushed the boundaries too hard.

"I think it is a fair point," said producer Patrick Liu, when asked about the controversy in the latest issue of PSM3 magazine. "We do stir up some feelings, although it's not about the war, it's about the soldiers."

"We can't get away from what the setting is and who the factions are, but in the end, it's a game, so we're not pushing or provoking too hard."

It remains to be seen if this will prove to be a problem in the future, as the mainstream media has yet to latch onto this possible news firestorm.

Really? So it's okay to be on the USA side and kill anything in any game but if you have a game where the Taliban kills American's it turns into a controversy? Pretty fuked up double standard. USA murders men, women and children civilians all the time (go wikileaks) in war but its outrageous to see American's die in a video game. STFU and don't play the game then.
