EA's Dead Space 2 'Significantly Outsells' Original

Posted January 28, 2011 by James Brightman

In October 2008, Electronic Arts introduced the world to a new action horror IP in Dead Space. The game was a critical darling, earning a Metacritic of 89, and eventually the title became a commercial success too, racking up 2 million in sales by last August. Now Dead Space 2 looks to be building on that success.

The sequel is faring slightly better with reviewers, garnering a 91 on Metacritic, and according to channel checks from Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, Dead Space 2 is "significantly outselling" the original game. The game just hit stores on January 25, and sales data is not yet available, but it's encouraging to see EA's new IP blossoming into a genuinely successful franchise with the second iteration.

Although Dead Space didn't quite meet expectations for EA, the publisher set out to really up the ante with the sequel, and thus far it appears to be paying dividends.
