EA Sports is no stranger to soccer glory. Its FIFA 09 release last year sold 10 million units worldwide. According to Chart-Track’s latest figures, FIFA 10 has already sold one million units in the United Kingdom, after only three weeks of release. That’s a staggering number, considering that last year’s game took six weeks to reach that sales mark. FIFA 10 held off stiff competition from games like Uncharted 2, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Wii Sports Resort, and Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games, which rounded out the top five.
EA Sports earlier this month labeled FIFA 10 the “fastest selling sports game ever,” after the game sold through 1.7 million units across Europe during its first week.
FIFA 10's numbers should continue to increase through the fall and winter seasons, and U.S. sales will play a big part in that, with the game available in stores today for multiple platforms. Although soccer is far less popular in the U.S. than Europe, EA's FIFA series usually manages to do well, and has a loyal following.
