Earlier today we reported that leading social games company Zynga hired Steven Chiang to lead its studios. Chiang was a longstanding veteran of EA Sports, having co-founded Tiburon and overseen the Madden franchise for many years. The change, however, has allowed EA Sports to promote two of its top executives.
Andrew Wilson and Pauline Moller are both moving up the corporate ladder at EA Sports. Wilson, who has been serving as head of the Global Online Group since last fall and is credited for transforming the FIFA business, will now run worldwide development for EA Sports. Moller, who's been at EA for 13 years, most recently as GM of EAC, will now serve as Chief Operating Officer for the EA Sports label.
"The departure of Steve Chiang allows us to graduate this new generation of creative leadership," said EA Sports President Peter Moore on his blog. "Steve helped make a lot of great games with EA, and we understand his wish to try something different after nearly 15 years with the company. Andrew and Pauline represent an evolution in our creative team, they are a reflection of the deep bench of studio talent here at EA Sports, and they will help continue our commitment to the digital transformation of our sports business."
Moore continued, "I couldn’t be more excited about the new roles for Andrew and Pauline, and as evidenced by the reaction last week to upcoming titles like EA SPORTS MMA, NBA JAM, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11, EA SPORTS Active 2.0 and 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, I hope gamers will be too."
EA Sports held a special "Season Opener" last week at the start of GDC, where they showed off the lineup Moore alluded to and also talked about the interesting ways in which they use online data and feedback to improve game design.
