EA Playfish Loses Two Executives

Posted February 15, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Today, a report from InsideSocialGames revealed that EA's Playfish is losing two high-level level employees at the end of March. The gentlemen involved are Playfish chief operating officer and EA Interactive vice president Sebastien de Halleux (pictured), and Playfish development head Sami Lababidi. Both have been with the company since its founding, and with their departure only one founding member, Playfish general manager Kirstian Segerstale, will remain.

Both are reportedly staying on at the company as consultants, with Gamasutra confirming de Halleux' new status.

"Following a great run as a co-founder of Playfish, Seb has decided to step into a consulting role," EA said in a statement. "Going forward, he will continue to provide input on the site as we add new content and scale Playfish to millions of new players."

These departures come around fifteen months after EA purchased Playfish to strengthen its place in the growing social gaming market. Playfish follows Zynga as the second largest social game developer in terms of traffic, with its top three titles being Pet Society, Restaurant City, and Hotel City. The developer is also developing titles to push classic EA brands like FIFA Superstars, Madden NFL Superstars and PGA Tour Golf Challenge.

No replacements for the departing executives were named.
