Wii U Could Be Powered By EA's Origin [Rumor]

Posted November 14, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Nintendo has made it abundantly clear that it hopes to move away from the limitations of the currently available Wii console.  With a lack of major online support, as well as third party games, Nintendo has definitely been drawing criticism from fans and consumers when stacked against other offerings in the Xbox 360 and PS3.  A recent tip from within EA now indicates that the publishing giant is working on getting a major deal with Nintendo in regards to the Origin platform.

The source, who wishes to remain anonymous, was identified within the original article as a female intern who has befriended a network engineer within the publisher.  This intern claims that EA and Nintendo are in talks to facilitate Origin as Nintendo’s primary hosting platform for game distribution in the digital sense.

It also seems as though Valve is currently in talks as well, but EA is “aggressively persuading Nintendo to go Origin exclusive with Wii U’s online so they can gain a competitive advantage over Steam.”

For now, take this with a big grain of salt, but we certainly find it plausible.
