The Free 2 Play bandwagon seems to be gaining even more steam now that EA has gotten into the mix, and numbers for the company are looking pretty positive. The company has announced over 25 million registered users for the entire Play4Free library, a library that offers games such as Battlefield Heroes, Need for Speed World and Dragon Age Legends.
With several triple-A titles going into an F2P mindset, EA has made many of its big franchises even more accessible, especially in Battlefield and Need for Speed. The publisher noted that both of the F2P titles under each franchise have hit 10 million registered users. Other titles such as Battlefield Play4Free, Battleforge, Lord of Ultima and Dragon Age Legends have hit a combined 5 million registered users as well.
“Developing a community of 25 million players is a remarkable achievement. It is a testament to the explosive growth of the free-to-play market and a reflection of EA’s commitment to spearheading the digital transformation. We plan to continue to innovate in the category, introduce new gameplay that delights players and keeps them coming back for more,” said Sean Decker, Play4Free, vice president. “For our teams, this is an incredibly exciting time to be making games as the audience continues to grow and diversify.”
EA has also announced that a new MMO strategy title is finally available for a closed beta. Command and Conquer: Tiberium Alliances will be going through a beta trial through EA’s Play4Free studio, Phenomic.
