Yesterday, Electronic Arts and LucasFilm signed a new publishing agreement for the upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Under the new agreement, EA will take over the publishing, marketing, and distribution duties that were previously under LucasArts’ watchful eye. LucasFilm will remain a part of the process, collaborating with EA on design and marketing decisions. Financial terms were not disclosed.
LucasArts is currently undergoing some upheaval at the moment. In August, the studio cancelled its upcoming projects, including Star Wars: The Force Unleashed III and the PSP port of The Force Unleashed II. A month later, LucasArts axed almost one-third of its internal development staff. As EA has been bankrolling a good deal of SWTOR, it makes sense to have all duties moved over to the more stable of the two entities.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is currently being developed by BioWare and has an expected release date of sometime in 2011.

Does anyone else get the feeling that theres a chance this game might get canceled before it releases?

With the amount that's been invested in it, cancellation at this point seems unlikely. It might, however, quickly run into trouble if it doesn't come fast out the gate.
