Following yesterday’s flurry of title announcements and their E3 press event, Konami has officially revealed three more marquee-level titles.
The first title is an odd continuation of a classic shooter franchise. Otomedius Excellent is the next sequel in the Otomedius series, which is a new take on the classic Gradius franchise. Players control a set of females with flightpacks as opposed to classic starfighters like the Vic Viper. Luckily for shooter fans, the gameplay remains the same and the new title adds online multiplayer and extra downloadable content.
"As the sequel to the 2008 Japanese hit Otomedius Gorgeous, Otomedius Excellent boasts a significant visual and gameplay update since its predecessor," said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital. "Accompanied by brilliant graphics and an excellent soundtrack, Otomedius Excellent will engage fans with the Gradius franchise on a whole new level."
The second title was NeverDead, a new IP for the Japanese publisher. Players take control of a hero who can never die in a post-apocalyptic world where supernatural horrors roam free. The third-person action title is developed for Konami by Rebellion, creators of the most recent Aliens vs. Predator, Sniper Elite, and Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.
"For NeverDead, we've introduced some truly exciting new forms of gameplay and sword fighting, including a unique healing mechanism originally designed and conceived by a former member of Kojima Production," said Hirano. "Their contributions, and those of the development team, have helped forge a great new action IP to add to Konami's vast lineup."
Konami’s big news was the continuation of one of their more beloved series. Silent Hill 8 will make players face their worst nightmares and deepest fears in the sleepy, fog-laden town of Silent Hill. The game stars a new lead, an escaped inmate who attempts to hide in the wrong place at the wrong time. The game is scheduled for launch in 2011 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
"In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we're working hard to build a next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve," Hirano finished. "This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror."
