Duke Nukem Success to Reignite Franchise [Rumor]

Posted August 22, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Though slandered by the press, Duke Nukem was somehow able to win some gamers’ hearts with Duke Nukem Forever.  That has given Take-Two more than enough reason to keep the franchise going, hinting that more titles featuring the Duke could very well be on the way, according to Official Xbox Magazine [thanks CVG].

That reboot of the franchise would be undertaken by Gearbox, who did a goodly amount of work for the critically-guffawed Duke Nukem Forever.  Gearbox intends to give Duke Begins a shot, a game that has long been in discussion for development, after work is completed on Aliens: Colonial Marines.

There seems to be good motivation for a reboot, with the massive amount of press surrounding the release.  Even still, there have been titles released under the Duke name, including Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project to Xbox Live Arcade and even a DS title.

Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick even mentioned the possibility, saying that “We don’t really talk about it in detail but you will see future Duke IP coming from this company.”
