Speaking to the Asahi Shimbun [thanks Kotaku], Nintendo President Satoru Iwata mentioned that he was looking to increase the number of DS WiFi spots in Japan, which provide content along with online gaming. While Iwata dismissed the idea of adding mobile phone functions to the DS or charging an online subscription fee, he offered up an interesting tidbit about its successor.
"[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing," said Iwata.
The Nintendo executive was quick to note, however, that with the DS selling record numbers in the U.S. in 2009, a successor to the portable console is probably not coming anytime soon.
