The latest Top Global Markets report from the NPD, GfK Chart-Track and Enterbrain recently released. According to the report, there has been a sales decline in the gaming industry's primary markets of six percent between July and September compared to the same time period last year.

The Japanese market is up 15 percent year-on-year, compared to last year's 20 percent decline. The U.S. and the U.K., however, suffered drop offs of nine percent and 19 percent. As far as year-to-date unit sales numbers, U.S. sales are down eight percent, Japanese sales are down nine percent and U.K. sales are down 13 percent.

The rise in the Japanese market can be largely atrributed to Dragon Quest IX, which was the best selling game worldwide with nearly four million in sales in Japan; Wii Sports Resort followed with slightly over three million and Madden NFL 10 managed 2.6 million. Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver sold slightly over two million units while Halo 3: ODST sold over 1.8 million units, rounding out the top five.
