Dragon Age Origins Sees $1 Million in DLC Sales

Posted November 13, 2009 by David Radd

Dragon Age Origins has been well received since it released, and early feedback suggest it's selling well at retail too. Speaking at the BMO Capital Markets conference, Electronic Arts executive vice president and CFO Eric Brown confirmed that the DLC has been a boon for Dragon Age Origins.

Brown said the downloadable content has racked up over $1 million in sales on all platforms combined, according to Gamespot. Dragon Age Origins currently offers the Warden's Keep DLC for $7, Stone Prisoner (free with all new copies) for $15 and premium Dragon Age themes for $3 a pop.

Additionally, Brown noted that Battlefield 1943 has sold 1.2 million copies on PS3 and Xbox 360. The download-only multiplayer shooter sells for $15.

While we're not inherently against the idea of DLC content for games, day one DLC like Warden's Keep (which contains both powerful items and abilities along with additional plot development for the Grey Wardens) fills us with some ambivalence.

I agree with you David. Why not just have day one dlc as part of the disc content? DLC is suppose to add to the longevity of the game and come out around the time you are just finishing up the entire game. Day one content seems like an obvious rip off to consumers. We pay $60 and now you want us to pay an extra $7-12 for extra dlc on the same day? No thanks.
