Doom's German Ban Lifted After 17 Years

Posted September 5, 2011 by M.H. Williams

After 17 years, id Software's Doom will finally be heading to German stores with an entirely uncut release. Bethesda, id's parent company, announced the news in a post on its official blog.

“Good news for German gamers! Following an appeal to the German ratings board, both DOOM and DOOM II have been de-listed and now carry a '16+' rating,” said the post.

“While we work to make both DOOMs available widely there, we’re also set to release an entirely uncut version of id Software’s RAGE to German stores. Look for it on October 7!”

It's been a long time coming, but some German player out there is no doubt happy to be able to legally play Doom in their home region. Id's upcoming shooter, Rage, has also been approved for release in Germany with no cuts.
