The developers behind DJ Hero have finally received their fate, as it were. Activision has decided to spare the studio at the cost of some layoffs following the publisher’s stated intentions to move into other creative pursuits.
With the decline of the music genre games, FreestyleGames was reportedly hanging on by a thread. Today, it has been announced that they will continue to operate, albeit at a loss of 35 employees.
All in all, the studio “will continue [their] strong partnership with Activision,” noted FreestyleGames creative director Jamie Jackson. While DJ Hero is on hiatus, the studio is working on an as-of-yet unnamed project. News on the latest title should be forthcoming over the next few months.
"We'd like to thank the team, our fans, the media and the video game industry at large for their support during this period," added Jackson.
