Disney Interactive Layoffs Actually Much Lower Than Reported

Posted January 27, 2011 by James Brightman

Disney Interactive has been going through some major changes as it looks to put greater emphasis on mobile and social games and less focus on AAA console titles. Unfortunately, that's meant a sizable number of layoffs within the group, but the numbers that have been reported this week are apparently exaggerated.

The first reports from sources indicated that as many as half of the group's approximately 700 employees got the axe. Although an exact figure has not been provided, a Disney Interactivespokesperson did clarify to us that the real percentage of those let go is "significantly less than 50%."

We hope all those affected by the cuts can get back on their feet quickly. We'll be bringing you more on Disney's evolving gaming strategy in the near future.
