In-game ads have always been something of a discussion for gamers. On one hand, developers gain from the added revenue and added branding that can be had. On the other hand though, consumers tend to react negatively to blatant advertisements that ‘ruin’ the experience.
That debate has been enlivened with the revelation that in-game advertisements have been added with a patch to a game, rather than simply being included from the start. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has added new advertisements to loading screens within the game. Specifically advertised is the new Blu-ray set coming out for all six of the Star Wars titles.
Is this justified for a game consumers already paid full price for?
