Dead Space to Continue to Haunt Us

Posted May 19, 2010 by Ben Strauss

At a recent showcase for EA in London, Dead Space executive producer Steve Papoutsis had a chance to discuss the viability of the Dead Space franchise in the coming years. He commented, “We've mapped out plenty of games worth of stuff. But there has to be an interest, right? We don't want to cheapen what we're doing. We're really focused on quality with it. Hopefully if people like this one, we get to make another one." The studio has expressed the desire to continue the series, without costing it the legitimacy that it has achieved.

They want to ensure they do not run the series into the ground. Papoutsis added, “It would be great to just keep making more and more of them. We're thinking kart racer, a fitness game... joke!" He discussed with the crowd at length the intent of the series, and made it rather clear he did not want the game to go the way of other series. One can only imagine how a fitness game with six-legged horror monsters in space would go...

The possibility of extending the Dead Space franchise has long been on Visceral’s mind; the upcoming Dead Space 2 and Dead Space: Extraction we’re born from the idea, and though Dead Space: Extraction did not do as well as projected, it was still reviewed to acclaim. It is entirely possible to see the series become a major contender in the horror genre.

Did Steve take those potshots at Activision, or was this added in by the article writer?
