Dead Space 2 will open with the protagonist, Issac Clarke, knee-deep in Necromorphs with no idea how he got there. EA looks to shine a light on events prior to Dead Space 2’s opening with Dead Space Ignition. Ignition is an all-new downloadable title for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, co-developed by Sumo Digital, available Fall 2010.
“Dead Space Ignition is the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer for the Dead Space franchise. “The interactive comic-style game will give Dead Space fans a unique perspective on the events leading up to Dead Space 2, and will also introduce the storyline to a brand-new audience of gamers.”
Dead Space Ignition will have a “comic-style” plot surrounded by a triad of hacking mini-games. Each game will provide a “fun and satisfying arcade experience that will challenge players with puzzles and twitch gameplay.” The game’s story is not unlike the classic “Choose Your Own Adventure” books, letting players choose the impending grisly death that best suits them. Ignition will have four unique endings and players who finish the game can unlock items in Dead Space 2, including an exclusive suit.
Ignition is written by Antony Johnston, a New York Times-bestselling author of titles like Wasteland and Daredevil. Johnston was also the writer of the Dead Space comic series released in 2008. Dead Space 2 will follow the release of Dead Space Ignition and is slated for release on January 25, 2011.
