Sony’s long-awaited MMO has finally been given a release date, as Sony Online Entertainment will be shipping DC Universe Online for PC and PS3 on January 11. While the game was supposed to launch on November 2, a last minute delay prevented the launch of the game.
Fans no longer need worry, as the PC and the PS3 are about to get the full title. There is an ongoing beta at this point, and so far the game has been received positively. Game director Chris Cao says that players are warming up to Superman as a “mentor” within the game, and that around 60% of players have chosen to be heroes, rather than villains. He did note that player-vs.-player servers do see more villains though.
"Jim Lee and our friends at DC are going to join us in a live, end-of-beta event where players will fight alongside and against the iconics as Brainiac's menace yet looms," Cao explained about wrapping up the beta in preparation for the launch of the full title. "Players will be able to experience what would've happened had they followed in the footsteps of the cinematic and battled each other instead of fighting to save Earth. It will be an epic end and thank you for beta."
The PS3 version of the game will run a standard $59.99 while the PC version will only cost $49.99. Unfortunately, the game is only offering a subscription-based service, which charges at a rate of $14.99 a month. Gamers have a chance to try online for free for 30 days. A lifetime subscription option is also being offered at $199.

"A lifetime subscription option is also being offered at $199."
I thought those were illegal in the US as of a couple years ago.
