The folks at Sony Online Entertainment have announced that DC Universe Online is now completely free and available for download. The game, available for PS3 and PC, features many popular characters that gamers should feel at home with. Superman, Batman, the Joker and other reputable characters make appearances in the game, giving this free-to-play title some substance.
Free-to-play for the game was announced back in September, and is just now going into effect.
"We are confident that going free-to-play will expand the action combat experience of DC Universe Online by making the game more accessible to every type of player so they can choose to play the game their way," said John Smedley, President, Sony Online Entertainment.
"With a portfolio that includes three successful free-to-play games -- EverQuest II: Extended, Free Realms and Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures -- we have extensive knowledge and experience to apply to DCUO and are thrilled to be taking the game free-to-play today."
As with all F2P titles, the base game is completely free to play to all gamers. Added content can be purchased as well. SOE has really taken to offering F2P titles throughout their library, indicating that those titles not necessarily hitting triple-A status still have a place in this rapidly evolving industry.
