Dark Souls Ships 1.5 Million Units

Posted November 2, 2011 by Ben Strauss

New figures released from Namco Bandai show that Dark Souls has been able to punch in some good sales numbers for the company.  All in all, over 1.5 million units have shipped thus far worldwide.

Dark Souls is a rather unique game in that getting killed a lot is considered normal.  While the title is not a direct sequel to Demon Souls, developer From Software believes that this spiritual successor has more than lived up to the standard of the previous title.  The two games enjoy something of a cult-hit status, thanks in part to a very dedicated fanbase.

Shipping over 620,000 units in North America and 470,000 in Europe, Dark Souls has done exceedingly well for what could be considered a niche title.  Japan has also posted some big numbers, despite a late October release.  Japanese shipments hit 370,000, despite the fact that the game was only released on the PS3.
