Gface, a Crytek affiliate, has just announced their intention to break into the digital distribution market with the Gface Platform. The new “social media publishing service” is designed not only to provide a cloud-based gaming solution, but also to provide a new social networking outlet that provides a myriad of opportunities to gamers.
Some of the major points for the service are based on social interaction, with video chat and a drop-and-drag invite system being implemented into the downloadable plug-in being offered. The service will also work for multiple titles, rather than a single game (akin to Battlelog for BF3.) The plug-in even acts as a streaming agent, much like OnLive.
In theory, multiple gamers can be playing the same game on different devices, specifically designed for said devices. That is to say, a PC gamer can be working on a traditional shooter, while an iOS-based gamer can run in a support and logistics capacity. All the while, these players can video chat to coordinate efforts.
Other possibilities include invites to non-registered members, simultaneous video sharing, and link and media drop-in-drop-out connectivity. The team behind Gface has been working on the project for some time, and enjoys full Crytek support.
"[Gface] encompasses our mission to re-imagine the way we play, the way we interact with each other – live in an entirely new way," says Crytek boss and Gface director Cevat Yerli. "We want everybody to play everywhere for free.”
A closed beta is currently taking applications.
