Crysis 2 Is The Avatar Of 3D Games, says Crytek

Posted January 14, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli has already thrown down the gauntlet when it comes to the 3D in Crysis 2. Back in August, he said the studio wanted gamers to associate the Crysis franchise with 3D gaming. Yerli has now followed up the comment with more about Crysis 2’s impressive 3D effects in an interview with Edge Magazine (via CVG). He told the magazine that Crysis 2 would be "a super-high-end 3D experience on all formats."

"There was one project we developed exclusively in stereoscopic 3D - and we started that two-and-a-half years ago," he told Edge. "It was designed to be only possible in 3D, so we asked what it'd take to make that.”

"So we've done a lot of research into 3D experiences, the UI and whatnot. And a lot of this knowledge is now in the Crysis 2 3D experience. That's why we have, in my opinion, a benchmark 3D implementation,” he continued.

"I'll even claim it's the same as Avatar's status in 3D. James Cameron has seen Crysis 2, and he loved what he saw because his eyes are trained for 3D more than anyone else's, and that makes me confident that we have a super-high-end 3D experience on all formats,” he explained.

Those are bold words in a year that will see 3D-enhanced releases on consoles in the form of the new Mortal Kombat, Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, and the entire 3DS launch lineup. Let’s see who occupies the winners’ circle in a few months shall we?
