Crysis 2 is certainly among the most anticipated shooters in the pipeline, but to the disappointment of many gamers, Crytek's latest was recently delayed from this holiday into next year. Thanks to the official Twitter account for the game, we now have an official release date: March 22, 2011 (March 25 in Europe).
Crysis 2 is a big deal for Crytek because it finally means they can bring their vision to console gamers. Moreover, the developer is taking 3-D stereoscopic visuals quite seriously and is intent on making the Crysis franchise entirely 3D going forward.
Although EA is missing the holiday sales window with Crysis 2, we have a feeling the game will sell just fine. Q1 used to be a very dry period, but more and more publishers seem to be okay with pushing products out of Q4 and into Q1. For EA it's already looking quite crowded with Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, Darkspore, Fight Night Champion, and Need for Speed: Shift 2.

This was a good move for the game although that date puts it dangerously close to Gears of War 3 which ships early the next month. I'm still going to pick up both though. I've been waiting for a console version of Crysis since the original was announced and soon I'll finally be able to get my hands on it.
