Credit Card Usage by Gamers Dropping

Posted February 21, 2012 by Ben Strauss

A new study issued by NewZoo says that gamers are using credit cards less and less for purchasing items related to gaming.  The study points out that usage dropped 6 percent last year, from around 26 percent of gamers in 2010 to 20 percent in 2011.

Researchers at Ukash also weighed in with a separate study, saying that they also saw consumers edge more towards pre-paid cards, rather than give out credit card information.  The firm says that 9 out of 10 people would rather not use their cards for digital transactions.

“It’s far from game over for cash,” said Ukash CEO David Hunter. “We’re seeing demand from publishers and gamers for alternative payment.”

All in, pre-paid cards have seen a drastic rise in sales from 2010 to 2011.
