Codemasters Closing Guildford Studio

Posted September 14, 2011 by Ben Strauss

Unfortunate news today has leaked from Codemasters.  Reports have come in that the firm is looking to close down one of their studios, specifically the Guilford location.  Employees were today told that the location is expected to close down, and that all current employees would be affected.

"The company is proposing to retire from its facility in Guildford, most recently responsible for the shooter Bodycount," said Codemasters in a statement addressing the issue.

"If progressed, the move will affect 66 Guildford studio personnel; staff are now involved in a consultation period to discuss the proposal."

Unfortunately, the recent output from Guildford has been less than stellar in the eyes of critics and consumers.  Operation Flashpoint titles as well as the recent Bodycount were both marginalized by other titles.  Loss of creative director Stuart Black and general manager Adrian Bolton did little to help the situation.

Codemasters has confirmed that they will work to help those affected by the closure, saying that “In the event that staff working within the Guildford site are affected by the current proposals, they will be encouraged to apply for suitable positions on campus and in the Birmingham studio."
