Chart-Track: Digital Downloads to Exceed $1 Billion in 2009

Speaking at the Develop Conference in Brighton, GfK Chart-Track director Dorian Bloch commented that the digital download market is expected to be over $1 billion in 2009. He estimated that the market generated roughly $600 million last year.

"This is a huge business," said Bloch, according to GI.biz. "The key thing for me in this is that these publishers support me in what I do and they want their sales included in the charts."

While the digital downloads market continues to grow, Bloch noted that Chart-Track doesn't have enough data to give a complete picture of the market. "Sega has been asking us, 'when can we include our Football Manager sales in our charts?' We'd like to include them, but I can't just include one publisher's sales, I need a balanced approach for doing that," he said.

Digital is expanding rapidly on all platforms, not just on PC, and it would certainly be nice for a company like Chart-Track to provide us with a clear image of its entirety one of these days.
