GameInformer [thanks CVG] recently revealed a large amount of information about id Software's upcoming Rage. The story is a not-too-atypical affair where players must wander about a post-apocalyptic environment trying to bring down a shadowy organization. Much of the gameplay in Rage will focus on weapon customization and vehicle combat.
While id's John Carmack has insisted in the past that he would make sure that Rage would come to the PC platform, he confirmed that the experience is being crafted for console users using controllers first. "The largest chunk of our market's going to be on consoles," said Carmack. "I mean, yes, you can use the mouse for it but it's critical that the controller be the way that we design the game."
He noted that they are working on a way to not split the game up into three DVDs on the Xbox 360 because of the two primary locations that Rage is set in. The PC version of the game will have higher resolutions, faster texture page-in times and superior anti-aliasing but will otherwise be unchanged from the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
Carmack offers more evidence as to how the core PC gaming market is not in the best of shape.
