Capcom's Resident Evil series producer Jun Takeuchi recently spoke to 1UP in a far ranging (if short) interview. He gave an insightful response when asked what was both good and bad about the Japanese gaming industry today.
"The worst trend that I see is really the technological inability of Japanese developers to develop games for next generation platforms and games that will be appreciated by users in the West. The technological ability of Japanese developers used to be so much more respected than it is now," said Takeuchi. "However, the best trend is that users are starting to be more receptive to different game types, whether that be wireless multiplayer games like our own Monster Hunter or Western games. Users in Japan are starting to get more and more comfortable with Western-style games and games developed in the West."
When asked about Microsoft's Project Natal, Takeuchi indicated that a lot of developers are ambivalent about the device, though he indicated that the PS3 Motion controller is provoking a different response. "Well just being from Capcom, I can tell you that we have a lot of good ideas on how to make use of that technology and we're looking forward to putting them into practice," said Takeuchi. "However, speaking to other developers in Japan, I've heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3."

They can try but don't expect us to buy it. Some will but I doubt it'll be as much as they want. Maybe if they made it on ps3 first and then ported it down.
