Capcom's Former Exec Announces Two Start-Ups

Posted April 1, 2011 by M.H. Williams

Keiji Inafune, the Mega Man creator who abruptly departed Capcom in October of last year, has finally revealed where he’ll be starting over.  Today, Inafune announced not just one, but two new companies: the previously rumored Comcept, and the brand-new Intercept.

Intercept will be Inafune’s game development studio, with the new CEO referring to it as his “new challenge for consumer game development.”  The studio’s three pillars are originality, creating that which cannot be copied by others; gravity, creating games that pull people in; and agelessness, creating titles that are evergreen.  Intercept is based in Tokyo’s Shinagawa area and has a starting capital of ¥10 million.

Comcept will be a broader, cross-media company, much like Will Wright’s Stupid Fun Club.  Areas of focus will include console and online games, books, character goods, music, video, and events.  Comcept’s main office is in Tokyo, with another branch office in Osaka.  The company also has a starting capital of ¥10 million.

Inafune will be holding a press conference on April 4, 2011 to explain the future of his two companies.
