Capcom Sees Sales, Profit Boost on Monster Hunter Success

Posted October 29, 2009 by James Brightman

Japanese publisher Capcom today released its earnings report for the first half of its fiscal year. The company noted that overseas sales "remained soft" and blamed the delay of Dark Void, as well as struggles for Bionic Commando and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP). Despite that, however, the company enjoyed a 24.5% sales boost to 38.89 billion yen ($426 million) with net income growing 58.4% to 2.97 billion yen ($32.45 million).

The big drivers of growth included Monster Hunter Tri (Wii), which shipped over a million units and "enjoyed rapid sales," as well as Ace Attorney INVESTIGATIONS: Miles Edgeworth (Nintendo DS), which "showed a healthy sales increase." In addition, both Resident Evil 5 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (in Japan) saw continued success.

As a result, Capcom's home video game business saw net sales rise 68.3% to 27.75 billion yen and operating income increase 100.7% to 7.3 billion yen. Arcade game sales on the other hand, plunged nearly 84% during the first half.
