Capcom Promotes Mega Man Creator to Global Head of Production

Posted April 23, 2010 by James Brightman

Keiji Inafune is one of Japan's most notable game designers and Capcom is lucky to have him. The man behind hits like Mega Man, Dead Rising and Onimusha now has a much larger role at the publisher; he will essentially ensure games' quality for all parts of Capcom worldwide, Kotaku has reported. Additionally, Inafune hired Shinji Futami to serve as his "mouthpiece to convey (Inafune's) feelings, his ideas, his philosophy to the U.S."

As the new global head of production, Inafune wants to make sure that gamers feel all Capcom games are of equal quality no matter where they are developed. "It's a common comment I hear that games created in Europe aren't really Capcom games. That games created in Japan are true Capcom games. I want to put an end to that, basically saying that whether games are created in America or Japan or anywhere in the world, I will be the one overlooking it and so it will have that Capcom flavor that fans know and love," he stated.

Inafune continued, "So one of the things I want people to know is that now that I am overseeing every part of Capcom R&D you can be sure that that unified vision is going to come through in all of our titles no matter where they are created. Those of you who know me, know how serious I am about trying to make global games on a global scale especially thinking about America and Europe when designing a lot of our titles. I've been pushing really hard for the last several years to try and gear our games in that direction."

Japanese publishers such as Capcom, Sega and Square Enix have all been looking to create more games for the larger, more lucrative Western audience, and ultimately games that have great global appeal. The Japanese market has suffered, and Japanese game designers need to stop being so insular.

If i may make an example Square Enix newest IP "Nier Gestalt" developped by Cavia uses an extra more too european apealing Main Character than the japanese version if i may say why did you do it Square you already make me not buying this game because you desided too bring in a God of War like European apealing Character thats reality for me really i passed it becuase it looked and feeled silly.

I like japanese games because they give me a taste of an other culture so please dont spoil that for me and maybe for others.

thank you
