Posted February 23, 2010 by James Brightman

Capcom sent out a brief statement to the media today, alerting us to the sudden death of Mark Beaumont, who had been serving as the publisher's chief operating officer for North America and Europe.

"Dear friends of Capcom,

Our COO and dear friend, Mark Beaumont, passed away this morning.   This sudden loss has left us with deep sadness. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.   We will remember him for his humor, passion and commitment to Capcom and our industry.   He was a great leader and visionary and his spirit will carry on in everything that we do.   Please join us in memory of Mark."

Beaumont, who was in his late 50s, had been promoted to the COO role in 2008. He had previously served as executive vice president for publishing at Midway before joining Capcom in 2005. Beaumont was a true veteran of the global games business with more than a quarter century of experience, having also spent time in the past at Activision, Atari, Warner Bros. Interactive, Data East, Psygnosis and Mindscape.

IndustryGamers would like to offer its sincerest condolences to Beaumont's family, friends and the entire Capcom team on this very sad day.

[Update: MCV is reporting that Beaumont died of a heart attack.]
