Capcom Announces Resident Evil 6

Posted January 20, 2012 by M.H. Williams

At a Resident Evil Anniversary event in Japan today, Capcom announced Resident Evil 6, the next installment in its long-running survival horror franchise.  Andriasang reports that RE6 executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and director Eiichiro Sasaki took the stage to reveal more on the project.

The gentlemen revealed that RE6 has the largest staff in the series history, with 150 people working on the project directly; the number hits almost 600 in total when contributing staff and overseas help are added.

Zombies will be returning to the titles after two outings with parasitic enemies, as will RE4 and RE5 protagonists Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield.  Leon’s story will take place in America, while Chris’ plot begins in China. The third protagonist was also shown, but Capcom declined to name the character at the event.

"Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series," said Capcom R&D and global marketing head, Katsuhiko Ichii. "The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world."

The trailer released earlier in the day shows a release date of November 20, 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  A proposed PC release will follow.
