Activision Blizzard’s Modern Warfare 2 has once again surged back in sales, even surpassing the recently released Starcraft II. Modern Warfare 2 is well on track to take the title as the U.K.’s best selling game of all time. The current holder of that title is the Nintendo DS game, Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training.
Modern Warfare 2, already displaying records for sales, expenses and game time played, has seen 12 million units sold in two months during 2009 and over 20 million units sold worldwide; the game has been an absolute juggernaut. The franchise's map packs have also gone on to sell over 20 million units.
With the upcoming release of Black Ops from Treyarch, Activision is putting the largest marketing budget they’ve ever had to bear to help the title sell in the same neighborhood as Modern Warfare 2. Despite analyst predictions that Black Ops will not see the same sales figures, Activision remains confident that the Call of Duty IP has firmly entrenched itself and that Black Ops will live up to the publisher's big expectations.
