With such titles as Call of Duty: Future Warfare, Call of Duty: Secret Warfare and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (domains uncovered by Superannuation) it seems like Activision might be ramping up its efforts with Call of Duty, following the recent Infinity Ward debacle, in an effort to get the studio back on track.
Though the rumors of a sci-fi style Call of Duty have been around for a while now, it seems that Sledgehammer studios could be taking the series in that direction. Sledgehammer, comprised of Visceral veterans who were responsible for EA's Dead Space, is well versed with sci-fi type shooters. For Sledgehammer to be taking on one of these possible titles doesn’t seem like such a stretch.
Though Sledgehammer is now on the Call of Duty franchise too, it's possible that Infinity Ward could be be getting the sci-fi shot they’ve been reportedly itching for in the wake of the legal action that has been brought to bear against Activision.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops on the way from Treyarch, and the yearly cycle in which Activision wants to get the games out, Call of Duty for 2011 might very well be set sometime in the future.
