Call of Duty for Next Generation Already in Development?

Posted October 4, 2011 by Ben Strauss

News of next generation has peaked yet again, this time in the form of a job listing from Treyarch.  Treyarch, who is responsible for a goodly amount of the Call of Duty content to come out from Activision, is currently looking for a senior software engineer to help “[bring] our hugely successful game to a new console.”

While Call of Duty is not specifically named, the studio has not worked on any other franchise since 2008, when they released a James Bond and Spider-Man title.  No console was specifically indentified in the job post, and Call of Duty has no console that it is not available for.  Perhaps this could indicate development on the already announced Wii U, or perhaps something more along the lines of Sony or Microsoft’s next generation offerings.

Again, this all remains speculation at this point, thanks to the vagueness of the job listing.  If anything, this could very well be a port.  The biggest clue is that requirements for the posting indicate a need for experience on the Xbox 360 or PS3, as well as a strong understanding of 3D math.
